About the author: George Grinnell-Milne (1853–1931) was a British merchant banker who also published literary works, including “Tales from Tasso, and Other Poems and Translations” (1909). In 1882 he married the Dutchwoman Maria Caroline Mess at The Hague, a connection that sparked his enduring interest in Dutch history and culture.
