Description
By Abbie Farwell Brown. Enter the legendary world of the ancient North, where gods contend with giants, magical treasures are forged, and courage and cunning are tested in extraordinary adventures.
Abbie Farwell Brown’s In the Days of Giants: A Book of Norse Tales retells some of the most enduring stories of Norse mythology. Drawing upon the myths preserved in medieval Icelandic literature, she introduces the gods, giants, dwarfs, and strange creatures who inhabit the vivid world of northern legend.
Within these pages readers encounter mighty Thor and his famous hammer, the wise Odin, the cunning and troublesome Loki, and the formidable giants who repeatedly challenge the gods. The tales range from Odin’s sacrifice of his eye and the forging of wondrous treasures to Thor’s encounters with the giants, the death of Balder, and the punishment of Loki. Magic, adventure, trickery, rivalry, and danger fill the stories, while the deeds and misdeeds of the gods reveal a mythological world unlike any other.
This carefully restored edition brings back a classic collection of Norse tales, complete with E. Boyd Smith’s illustrations. For readers drawn to myth and legend, In the Days of Giants offers a memorable journey among the gods and giants of the ancient North.
