About the author: Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906) was a Norwegian playwright and poet widely regarded as one of the founders of modern drama. Born in Skien, Norway, he spent much of his career in self-imposed exile in Italy and Germany, where he wrote many of his most influential works. Although famous for realistic dramas such as A Doll’s House, Ghosts, and An Enemy of the People, Ibsen also produced poetic and mythological masterpieces such as Peer Gynt. His exploration of individual freedom, morality, and social convention transformed modern theater and secured his place among the most important literary figures of the nineteenth century.
