About the author: Martin Luther (1483–1546) was a German theologian, professor, and religious reformer whose actions sparked the Protestant Reformation. Born in Eisleben, in the Holy Roman Empire, Luther studied at the University of Erfurt before entering an Augustinian monastery and later becoming a professor of theology at the University of Wittenberg. In 1517, he issued his Ninety-Five Theses, initiating a movement that transformed Christianity and European history. Luther translated the Bible into German, wrote extensively on theology and church reform, and helped establish the foundations of Lutheranism. His influence extended beyond religion into education, language, and culture. He died in Eisleben in 1546.
