About the author: John Muir (1838–1914) was a Scottish-American naturalist, explorer, writer, and conservationist widely regarded as one of the founders of the modern environmental movement. His writings and activism played a pivotal role in the creation of Yosemite National Park and helped shape America’s national park movement. He co-founded the Sierra Club in 1892.
